Professional Background
Dr. William R. Gesztes is a board-certified pathologist with advanced fellowship training in Genitourinary (GU) Pathology and Cytopathology. He completed specialized GU pathology
training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), where he trained under internationally recognized leaders in urologic pathology and participated in prostate cancer research focused on artificial intelligence applications in diagnostic pathology. He also completed fellowship training in Cytopathology at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
Dr. Gesztes completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C., where he gained extensive experience in
surgical pathology, cytopathology, frozen sections, tumor boards, and clinical pathology services. Prior to joining ECPC, he served as a staff pathologist at Northwell Health Northern Westchester Hospital and Phelps Hospital.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Gesztes has an extensive research background in prostate cancer pathology and biomarker analysis, with multiple peer-reviewed publications and national presentations through organizations including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Gesztes earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business Administration and Economics from Lund University, Sweden (EU). He received his medical degree from Semmelweis University, Hungary (EU) and is fluent in English, Hungarian, and Swedish.
